Nathans experience on the beach.

I have been in the Natural Resources class for a semester now and I was apprehensive about joining it but now I am very happy I did. The objective of us going out on the beach is to look for marine debris, dead birds and kelp rock
it doesn't seem to exciting but it helps us know how
our marine life and environment is doing. I have asked multiple kids my age
about what they know about our beaches and if they know how our environment is
doing and they don't have a clue. To be honest I was just like them before this
class but being a part of this class has helped me realize that all of that is
important it has to do with how the salmon are going to be this year and
predict how our environment is going to change. It has to do with all of our
futures and present day the marine debris we find we document every peace we
pick up and it helps us know what's going on as far as beach health and what
needs to be done to cut down on the amount of trash we find. The dead birds we
find helps us know how the birds are doing and what's going on with them maybe
that doesn't seem too important but they live off the ocean if there not doing
well the ocean will mimic that. The kelp rock helps us now how the tides are
effecting the beaches and how much movement is going on with the rocks so we
can predict what’s going to happen to the beaches. The class over all is really
fun and you can be proud knowing you’re helping out the community in a very big
way. We go over to east and west Elwha beaches to monitor them so we have a
pretty broad search area and sometimes it’s hard with such few people. But were
not the only crew there are crews all across the coast of Washington.
